Kemer Holiday & Travel Guide

Kemer is located in South Western Turkey overlooking a gorgeous section of the Mediterranean Sea while also belonging to the Antalya Province. This scenic town was established in 1910 however the town did not become a large tourist attraction and actually a key assist in the Tourism market until the 1980's.

As of 1990 the population was estimated to be around 9,740. Its elevation level is around 4m or 13ft. They have two time zones, EET and EEST. EET is the time zone used in the non summer seasons and EEST is used during the summer. They're 2 hours ahead of the UTC time zone and 3 hours ahead during the summer months.

The word Kemer comes from the origin of the city. During 1910-1907, the city constructed a wall 23km long in order to protect the city from flooding. Later the people called the city Village Arch or what we now know as Kemer.

Architecture in Kemer is surprisingly like Spanish architecture with pastel colored buildings. You can also find a lot of the same style of houses but they have been tweaked a bit through the course of time and their Turkish roots.

Kemer is said to be a very sunny city. You can expect a very hot summer with very little precipitation but do expect the occasional day with very high humidity. Even though it seldom rains, it can pack quite a flood into such a short amount of time. Expect basements to be flooded and streets to quickly fill up. A good thing though is that sidewalks are built high up to prevent getting drenched. The average office building does not utilize the Central Heating System concept. Residential homes commonly use wood burning stoves as the main source of heat.

Kemer sticks to its Turkish roots in terms of culture. It is one of the only cities to have plenty of eastern and western peoples therefore making it a Eurasian city. Ethnic groups have been known to mix and it was extremely common after the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War I.

One of the best times to start going in the year is May when it won't be too cold yet it won't be so hot that you have to worry about over heating or becoming sun burned. May also marks the start of the tourist season officially in May.
